Missed Check In Procedure

  • I make an assessment as to whether you may be in trouble or not.

  • I consider a lot of factors when making this assessment including whether your vessel is single handed, weather conditions at the time and predicted for the next 24 hours, and the status reported on your previous check in.

  • If I have lost all communication with you, but I observe your track on satellite AIS is as expected, it is unlikely I will take any action.

  • If I suspect you may be in difficulty or will be soon, then I will contact the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) for the Search & Rescue Region (SRR) you are transiting, and advise you have missed a check in.

  • I provide RCC with your vessel inventory from our database and the float plan you filed on departure. RCC will decide what action (if any) to take next.
