Safety services for recreational vessels conducting ocean passages
Peter Mott is a retired Internet entrepreneur, experienced radio engineer, and private maritime coast station operator who lives in Christchurch, New Zealand.
He has 10 years of volunteer experience assisting recreational vessels undertaking ocean passages, including multiple solo circumnavigators totalling dozens of vessels each year.
Peter holds New Zealand Boat Master and Coastal Skipper certifications and has sea time on both coastal and ocean passages conducted on his own vessels.
Above all else, Peter is a details guy and passionate about safety at sea.
Passage Guardian is inspired by the 1994 Queens Birthday Weekend Storm tragedy, the selfless dedication of Jon and Maureen Cullen of Kerikeri Marine Radio spanning many years, and more recently, the SV Nina tragedy in June 2014, resulting in the loss of seven crew members.
Combining passage monitoring and a New Zealand-based maritime HF/SSB coast radio station, Peter Mott’s Passage Guardian service is free of charge and available to recreational sailors anywhere in the world.
